El texto da cuenta del perfil intelectual de los esposos Mattelart, militantes y científicos de origen europeo que llegaron a América Latina por los años 60, y renacieron intelectual y políticamente, en este continente, por su voluntad de conocimiento sobre el mundo latinoamericano. Trajeron sabidurías éticas trascendentes, teorías sociales renovadas y una postura política-pedagógica de escucha y aprendizaje respetuoso de las culturas latinoamericanas, son los constructores del pensamiento crítico socio-cultural y político en comunicación en la región. Sus obras son una muestra de las exploraciones teóricas y de su síntesis de conocimiento crítico sobre la comunicación, el poder, la hegemonía, el género, la tecnología, la historia, los paradigmas de pensamiento y la revolución.
