Abstract

Da cuenta de la imposibilidad de poder tener un lenguaje que describiera de forma cierta y real el paraíso que era América. Al respecto Hernán Cortés al dirigirse a Carlos V le dice: " No hay lengua humana que sepa explicar las grandezas y particularidades de ella"". La primera reacción de los europeos ante el Nuevo Mundo fue de asombro. A los cronistas no les alcanzaban las palabras para describir lo que veían, el vocablo maravilla ostentó el complejo significado que aquella geografía y aquellos seres que la poblaban tenían para ellos, quizá por eso es que deba agradecerse a los cronistas por su paciente labor de organizar el caos y dar forma al conjunto vacío de contenidos semánticos de un mundo recién ingresado en la historia. "
