Abstract

En The Open and Closed Mind (La Mente Abierta y Cerrada ), Rokeach (1960) abrió un número de caminos para exploración. Trató con dogmatismo y sistemas de creencias y discreencias en un contexto cognitivo y presentó hipótesis sobre dogmatismo como un impedimento al procesamiento de información en el ser humano. Una hipótesis de Rokeach dice que una persona muy dogmática encontrará más dificultad que sus contrapartes en la sintetización de información, es decir, en pensamiento integrativo. Sin embargo, sus resultados en un experimento basado en un juego indicaron que personas relativamente más dogmáticas son diferentes de otras menos en su sintetización de información que en su habilidad de memoria. Otros autores han continuado las investigaciones de las hipótesis que dogmatismo afectará negativamente los procesos intelectuales.
